The Project of Promoting and Counseling of Low Carbon Transformation for Textile Industry

  • Modified at:2024-01-25

According to "Taiwan’s Pathway to Net Zero Emissions in 2050" announced by the National Development Council in March 2022 and the overall strategic blueprint, the textile industry has outlined a roadmap towards net-zero carbon emissions. This roadmap includes three main pathways: "Process Improvement," "Energy Transition," and "Circular Economy." In application of simultaneous research and analysis of the international net-zero carbon reduction trend, international textile companies and domestic textile companies promote energy conservation and carbon reduction cases. The project draws up methods such as material substitution, process optimization, equipment optimization, and energy transition, in conjunction with design optimization to reach the goals.

This program has adopted the 5th key strategy” Energy Saving and Efficiency” out of 12 key strategies action plan announced by National Development Council to fully promote 2050 Net-Zero transition goals. The program is intended to conduct a survey on the current situation of the carbon inventory in textile industry. Several government-funded textile-related research institutes are formed as a team, providing technical solutions such as material substitution, process and equipment optimization, energy transition, and recyclable design concept, to help textile industries attain their carbon emissions reduction goal. Furthermore, with the support of brands vendors, the program is aimed at facilitating their supply chain manufacturers to introduce low-carbon emissions technologies, build up a sustainable eco system, and to strengthen management capability of decarbonization and green communication power with brands. It will be no doubt the first priority of this program to assist textile industry, footwear, and bag & luggage industries in lowering their carbon emissions, leading to net-zero transition eventually.

The strategy to strengthen the green competitiveness of domestic textile industry are "Lead and guide small and medium enterprises", “Promote and Counsel”, and "Certification". "Lead and guide small and medium enterprises" is in company with industry associations, juridical persons, and major brand supply chain players to connect low-carbon industry alliances to enhance carbon reduction capabilities. “Promote and Counsel” is in collaboration with legal persons and industry associations using four major aspects of textile carbon reduction technology: "raw material substitution", "process optimization", "equipment optimization", "energy optimization" and other technologies to provide guidance and to promote demonstrations to enterprises for helping enterprises in constructing carbon reduction technologies. Furthermore, "Certification" promotes supply chain collaboration between the brand's main suppliers and related enterprises, jointly declare the production environmental footprint, and builds green communication capabilities.

The aim of the program is to build corporate carbon reduction capabilities and achieve the goal of integrating the textile production system with a low-carbon production model. To establish a low-carbon supply chain collaboration model to connect brands, suppliers and manufacturers in a low-carbon industry alliance to win sustainable business opportunities.
