  • Modified at:2024-01-23

In response to the 2050 global net-zero carbon emissions goal, the grand opening of the International Fastener Exhibition was held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.

On May 3rd, Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with Metal Industries Research & Development Center, organized the "Metal Industry ESG Low-Carbon Transformation Sustainability Forum."

In this forum, IDA invited three advanced experts to share their opinion:

1. Mr. Lee, Chief Economist of Taishin Financial Holding Co., Ltd., leads all participants to facing up to the sustainable issue without time delay and presents actions on how to achieve Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing.

2. Mr. Huang, General Manager of KPMG Carbon introduces CBAM policy and declaration regulations for Metal Industries and elaborates on how to support the industries to tackle with CBAM issues in due course.

3. MIRDC presents MOEA’s financial support resources to enterprises in achieving zero carbon emission and in strengthening international competitiveness in a timely fashion.

More than 60 companies and 100 participants have attended this forum, including Mr. Chang, Senior executive officer of IDA; Mr. Tsai, Chairman of Taiwan Industrial Fasteners Institute Association; Mr. Lin, Chairman of Taiwan Casting Industry Association; Mr. Hsu, Chairman of Taiwan Surface Finishing Industry Association; Mr. Lin, Assistant Vice President of China Steel Corporation; Mr. Lin, Chairman of MIRDC.

Since the scope of regulated products are expanding to downstream products in in the timeline, including screws and fasteners, companies, such as Jinn Her Enterprise Co., Ltd., are applying for smart forming monitoring, heat treatment process optimization, and carbon emissions management system applications in their counseling program. This is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 1,630 tons.

Leading companies such as RuiHsin Enterprises, Steelguard Co., Ltd., and Taiwan Self-Locking Co., Ltd., along with 10 other manufacturers in the forming and processing industry, peripheral heat treatment, and surface treatment, are creating a low-carbon supply chain. In applications of carbon footprint inspections, process carbon reduction improvements, and the introduction of carbon management tools, the capacity of reducing carbon emissions by the small and medium-sized enterprises will be enhanced in oder to strengthening the roles of relevant supply chains in the international marketplace and turn the carbon crisis into a carbon opportunity.
